the difference
between pas
and umno

What is the difference between PAS and UMNO?

Not much really. Policies of both parties are based on parochial Malay sentiments and extreme Islamic interpretations. Basically both do not believe in individual freedom and do not subscribe to real democracy, as the two parties think that only their leaders possess the correct interpretation of life.

So, why do people bother to even think about making a choice between the two parties? Leaders and members of both parties believe that God speaks through the Quran and since God is not present on earth, He needs His representatives to tell the people what to do and not to do. PAS and UMNO leaders are claiming that they are the true representatives of Heaven. This when the problem starts.

That is why Malaysia is one of the very few countries in the world where only Muslims can go and preach their religion to other people, and be proud of it because they believe this is what God wants them to do. At the same time, the government (which is Barisan Nasional led by UMNO) enacted laws to prevent non-Muslims to even talk to Muslims about their religion. Both UMNO and PAS seem to be very happy with this kind of "success". At the same time, PAS is accusing UMNO being "secular".

Although UMNO leaders love to question PAS’s intention to set up an Islamic state for Malaysia, where Muslims constitute only half the total population, UMNO never for once openly state its opposition towards such a proposal.

UMNO leaders and members are so afraid to "upset" the Malays if they are speak up against "Islamic state" or anything having an Islamic label on it. Never mind that attitude and actions of some Muslims are not even considered Islamic, but their main idea is to show the world that they are the "true" Muslims.

Of course, some may say UMNO and PAS leaders are equally dumb and stupid. But the point is that what do we call those who continue to follow the stupid idiots? What more when the follower believes that he is following God himself.

Islam is a good religion, similar to other beliefs such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and many other faiths. Basically they are all about being good to other people. In terms of politics and culture, all religions are equal.

But then (Islam is not the only victim of its own adherents), religions are being used and manipulated by some who believe God has given them to rights to hurt and to even kill other people.

So if UMNO and PAS are just about a group of people insisting that only Malays and Muslims have the divine right to live and to rule Malaysia, what choices do we Malaysians have?
